About Mwavuli Wa Jamii
With a commitment to empower a community-driven system of change, Mwavuli Wa Jamii was created with the mission to connect communities in parts of the world that need it most.
Ushering in new applications at the forefront of technology, Mwavuli Wa Jamii offers comprehensive connectivity solutions that address a community’s fundamental vulnerabilities. Delivered through an extensive network of partners and key change actions, Mwavuli Wa Jamii designs a roadmap to connect the disconnected - bridging the digital divide while unlocking a community’s true potential.
Focused initially on underserved communities within the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, Mwavuli Wa Jamii, which translated means “umbrella for the community,” seeks to be a catalyst of change.
By aligning key partners within technology, internet connectivity, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment and employment under its “umbrella,” each vertical works in tandem with the others to create true community solutions, no matter the environment.
“The key is to evolve the narrative. People in these communities are struggling and too often, proposed instruments of change react to just a single symptom, ” says McKinley Freeman, Mwavuli Wa Jamii Co-Founder
By building solutions that incorporate technology, access, resources, tools and education within a holistic infrastructure, members of these underserved villages and cities can now connect with the digital world in a meaningful way. And when equipped with the necessary skills and education needed to thoughtfully contribute not only to the growth of themselves but to their communities as a whole - the possibilities are endless.
“It’s the work in the community that makes the difference. Once connected technology is paired with a roadmap to things people can tangibly attain....that’s the beginning of sustainable opportunities for both individual and community progress.”
By offering an integrated suite of reliable and affordable connectivity solutions, especially those designed to be supported and maintained locally, Mwavuli Wa Jamii creates sustainable and scalable ecosystems of success, intrinsically transforming the way these communities connect and operate.
“Lasting change will come when the people within these communities have a safe space to rebuild their lives. Both old and young, we want to help them realize their extraordinary potential.”
Against all odds, Mwavuli Wa Jamii hopes to inspire a story of change in underserved communities that need it most - and ultimately, create hope.
